Technical info:
The new VTA Lite from Völkl is the lightest ski we have ever tested. The Germans have achieved this by using a new carbon reinforced construction they call Hybrid Core. It has a paulownia wood core with cut-out channels. The surrounding carbon shell helps to reduce the thickness of the core. The geometry is not as we know it from the BMT series, with a short sidecut radius and long setback.

On snow:
VTA Lite is as aggressive in the turns as the somewhat heavier VTA. It wants action, all the time, and this makes it quite shaky in our opinion. On the other hand, they are undoubtedly quick and easy to turn. Such a light ski will necessarily lack stability at speed and edge grip, but we think that a longer turning radius would have made it calmer and more versatile. The 170 cm test length was a little too short.

This sequence of numbers indicates stiffness. Each number corresponds to a part of the ski, from tail to tip. 5 equals the average
for this part and length of the ski. Lower values indicate softer skis, higher values stiffer.
